Welcome to Cairns Surf Life Saving Club
Cairns Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) is one of the oldest surf lifesaving clubs in Queensland, proudly serving the community since 1924.
Founded as a volunteer organisation, the Club was established to patrol the Northern Beaches of Cairns and keep beachgoers safe. Originally based on the Cairns Esplanade, the Club later moved to Yorkeys Knob, before settling at the northern end of Palm Cove in 1953.
Today, Cairns SLSC continues to provide volunteer patrols on weekends and public holidays from April to November, helping protect locals and visitors alike.
The Club offers a strong and inclusive community for all ages, with programs for:
-
Junior members aged 5–13, known as Nippers
-
Senior members
-
A thriving Masters group for members aged over 30
Whether you’re looking to volunteer, stay active, or be part of a community that makes a real difference, Cairns SLSC welcomes you.
Find the role that suits you best and be a part of the red and yellow community today!
You can participate in competitions, attend training sessions, and even take on leadership roles within the club. These experiences not only enhance your lifesaving skills but also foster personal and professional growth.
You don’t need to get into the water! While surf lifesaving often involves water rescues, many roles don’t require you to get in the water. You can be an observer, provide first aid, or support training sessions.
Every role in lifesaving is crucial, and your involvement will make a tangible difference in the lives of others.
Whether you’re offering first aid support, keeping an eye out for potential hazards, or mentoring new members, your contributions will directly impact the safety and well-being of our beachgoers and the broader community.
Craving excitement, meeting new people, and a chance to make a real impact? Joining a Surf Life Saving Club offers all this and more!
Joining a surf life saving club is more than just a fun activity – it’s a way to give back to your community. By volunteering your time, you help keep our beaches safe for everyone. The feeling of knowing you’ve made a difference in someone’s life is incredibly fulfilling.
Plus, it’s a great way to build a sense of community and camaraderie. You’ll be part of a team working towards a common goal, which is both rewarding and inspiring.
Nippers is a program tailored for 5–14-year-olds and their families which fosters a dynamic environment for families to have fun and friendship and gain invaluable life skills.
Through engaging activities centered around surf safety, lifesaving techniques, and ocean skills, Nippers not only builds essential survival skills but also develops a level of camaraderie and teamwork.
These future lifesavers embark on a journey of personal development, instilling qualities of leadership that extend beyond the shoreline.
