How to join

Welcome to Cairns Surf Lifesaving Club. It’s great that you’d like to get involved in the movement and to make a difference to beach goers lives. Getting involved means joining a surf lifesaving club, and to enable you to do this, SLSA have created electronic systems to ease you through the process. Your first step is to click on the below link & follow the prompts

SLSA – Join

When you have chosen the club or organisation and entered your basic information, you will have to complete the full membership application form. This form includes personal information (email address, driver’s license number, clothing sizes etc), medical information, emergency contacts and background information. Email Address, Home Address, and Postal Address are required fields and must be completed. All other fields are optional, but we would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete them. At the bottom of the application form are three acknowledgment boxes, one of which only applies if you are a parent or guardian applying on behalf of someone under 18. Once your application has been submitted you will see a confirmation window which includes your unique tracking ID. You will be sent this information by email, along with a link which you can use to check on the progress of your application.

It will also provide you with a link where you can make payment for you or your child’s membership. For further details on 2022 costs, please scroll to the bottom of this page.

If you wish to join up more than yourself / one person, click on the link at the confirmation screen. You will be redirected back to the application form for the next person, with some information saved.

In the Junior Documents, there are a number of useful links and guides for assisting with online membership.

These include:

  • SLSA How to Join or Rejoin a Club
  • Member Portal Guidelines
  • Member Portal Account Guide – Getting Started
  • SLSA Family Groups

For further information on joining online, you can also contact your Cairns Surf Club administrator on surf.admin@cairnssurfclub.com.au

What you need to know

Junior Activities membership is restricted to children aged 5 to 13 (Under 6 – Under 14). The age group is determined by the child’s age as of midnight on the 30th September each season. Therefore if your child is 8 on the 30th Sept 2018, they will be in the U9 age group. If they are 11 on the 1st October, they will be in the U11s.

A parent is required to join with all junior activities (Nipper) members as an Associate Member.

It is compulsory that all children (U6 – U14) be tested at the start of each season before they enter or participate in any Surf Life Saving Australia Junior Activity Program. The first stage of this is called the pool proficiency. You can have an accredited coach sign the swim proficiency form (please note a copy of the swim coach’s accreditation is essential).

Once your child has completed their Pool proficiency they must be able to complete their Run-Swim-Run to participate in any Nipper water activity. This proficiency is be completed at the beach in the ocean and allows children to participate in water events. If they cannot complete the Beach Evaluation they are limited to knee-depth water activities at the discretion of the Age Manager until they can complete.

Parent Expectations

We rely heavily on parent involvement for our Junior Program to run:

One parent/guardian must be at the beach at all times.

Help with the running of activities – whether it’s packing up the gear, water safety, assisting at the BBQ or officiating at carnivals.

The success of our club relies on your active involvement.
