Without volunteers, there would be no Nippers!

Like all surf lifesaving activities, volunteers run our Nipper days and Carnivals. Volunteering in surf lifesaving is FUN, and we need you!

With over 100 Nippers at Cairns, we need parental assistance each week to ensure our program runs efficiently and, most importantly, safely for our kids. When we take a team away to a carnival, this support team needs to increase as our resources get stretched between patrolling obligations and the carnival.

Some of the volunteer roles available are; BBQ Duties, Beach Set Up & Pack Down, Nipper Adult Assistant, Age Manager, Age Manager Assistant, Water Safety, Carnival Official

It is crucial that our volunteer force is strong and willing to support our ever-growing Nipper program. Without volunteers, there would be no Nippers!

Nipper Adult Assistant

Nipper Adult Assistants are qualified to provide water supervision or wading and ‘shallow water’ activities to the age, appropriate depth.

All NAA’s must a financial member, minimum of 18 years at date of assessment, hold a valid working with Children Blue Card, complete SLSQ CYRMS, complete SLSA CSA

Age Manager

Age Managers are crucial to the success of our Nippers program. Age Managers use their experience and passion for youth development to mentor Nippers and facilitate fun learning programs, encouraging and developing young surf lifesavers. Their goal is to enrich the lives of Nippers through the delivery of surf lifesaving knowledge and skills in a fun and safe aquatic environment.

If you are interested in becoming an Age Manager, our club can direct you to the Junior Activities Age Managers Course. This course has been developed to provide Age Managers with a program where they develop a greater knowledge about how Surf Life Saving operates, the factors influencing the growth and learning of young people, and the components that should be delivered to teach our Junior Activities members (our “Nippers”)

 Official

 One way to help at carnivals is to become an Official. Anyone can official; roles are varied and simple to pick up and your kids will enjoy having you involved.

Water Safety

Nipper parents with swimming and board skills can also undertake a Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion to assist in providing crucial Water Safety during weekly nippers and during carnivals.

BBQ

Our Fundraising BBQ Team are always keen for new volunteers, if you would like to assist set up, pack down or sizzle a sausage while meeting new people this could be exactly what you are looking for.
